Anti-Virus Manual Updating and Scanning

using McAfee Security Center

As a general rule before performing any of the below procedures make sure important documents are saved and applications are closed.

Scanning for viruses on a weekly basis

   This can be performed by setting a schedule to scan your computer automatically, let's say at 2:00am on Fridays.  You can also perform a manual scan whenever you feel it is necessary.

You can perform a manual virus scan at anytime but, perform a manual update to make sure you have the latest virus definitions before doing the scan.  Right click on the M on the taskbar by the clock, then select Updates.

            Then click on the Check Now button.

            You will then see a window similar to the below.

Click on the Update button.

An Internet Explorer window will open prompting you for your Email Address and password.  After entering this information, click the Log on button.

You will then see the below downloading window.

Once the downloading and installing are complete click the Close button and close the Internet Explorer window.

You can now perform a manual scan you can right click on the M on the taskbar by the clock, then select VirusScan and then Scan for Viruses.

From the below window make sure My Computer is highlighted and all check boxes are selected then click on the Scan button.

You will then see the below window while a scan is being performed.

When scanning is done and no infected items are found then click OK and close the Scan for Viruses window.  If more than one file appears in the list, you can select the checkbox in front of the File Name list to perform the same action on all of the files.  Click on the Clean button first.  If the file(s) are uncleanable, then click the Delete button.
